Land & Sea Management Unit Offices – “Powuppoon Haus”

Black & More  managed the the concept development and construction of a new government building for Sea Rangers and Environmental Officers on Thursday Island. The building, now known as “Powuppoon Haus”, achieves a 5-star energy rating and was designed to reflect the Torres Strait lifestyle, with the new space providing opportunities to represent local culture through built-in art & garden areas.

Powuppoon is the traditional Kaurareg name for a large pheasant-like bird. The Powuppoon is considered to be “passionate about its surroundings, determined, steadfast and a conservationist, always seeking to preserve natural things”.

Construction was undertaken with an Indigenous participation rate of 90%, which is the first time a participation rate this high has been mandated in a federal government agency building contract.

 

Department of Education State Infrastructure Enhancement Program (SIE)

Black & More acted in the role of Principal Consultant to undertake major renovations of more than 20 Far North Queensland Schools. Works included architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical upgrades.  Works also entailed in the identification and removal of asbestos containing materials from buildings built before 1990.

Innisfail Hospital Condition Assessment (2019)

Black & More undertook structural inspections and condition assessments for elements of the Innisfail Public Hospital.  This included the hospital roof, parapets and lift shafts. Our team are trained in access at heights and also utilise aerial drones to access and photograph difficult to access areas.

 

Gab Titui Cultural Centre

Management of planning, design and construction of the award winning Gab Titui. The Centre includes; two gallery areas; external performance stage; conference facilities; administration buildings; retail space and gallery storage.

Miskin Housing Estate

Lead consultant in the master planning, project management and civil engineering of a hillside subdivision and 18 housing units.

Atherton High School Independent Learning Hub

Planning Design and Construction Management of a facility to provide learning support to disabled students.  The hub has been recognised as the most advanced facility of its type in the region.

Gympie Showgrounds Grandstand

Black & More undertook forensic structural investigations and reporting on concrete structure of the grandstand at Adrian McClintock Park.

Lockhart River Engineering Services

Black & More acts in the role of Consulting Engineer to Council and oversees the delivery of multiple civil and building engineering projects.

Noosa Aquatic Centre

Black & More completed structural condition assessments and reporting for the external timber decking areas at Noosa Aquatic Centre.
